October Meeting


The October meeting of the Lane County Dahlia Society will be held on Thursday, October 3rd., at 7:30 PM at the Celeste Campbell Center, 155 High Street, Eugene. Please join us as we celebrate our favorite flower as the growing season nears its end. This month's program will feature LCDS member Eugene Kenyon, owner of River's Dahlias. Eugene will talk about the end of the dahlia season and how he prepares his dahlias for the first frost. He will also touch on dahlia seed collecting. Learn how you can successfully save seed from your plants. We are also encouraging all LCDS members and guests to bring dahlia blooms from your gardens. This will be a great opportunity to share a bit of this year's dahlia garden with the group and also begin formulating ideas for next year's garden too. There will be free refreshments and door prizes. As always, the meeting is free and open to the public. We hope to see you there!

56th Annual Dahlia Show



56th Annual Dahlia Show 

Where: Wheeler Pavilion, Lane County Fairgrounds, Eugene, OR

When: Saturday, September 14th, Noon - 6:00 PM

            Sunday, September 15th, 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Come help the Lane County Dahlia Society celebrate its 56th Annual Show. There will be hundreds of dahlia varieties on display, exhibited by dozens of growers from all over the Pacific Northwest. There will be an information booth staffed by LCDS members ready to answer all of your questions and free handouts too. Just outside the Wheeler Pavilion is a dahlia garden tended by LCDS members. Bring your camera and your questions and prepare to be amazed at the display. Admission is free! We will see you there!

September Meeting


The Lane County Dahlia Society will hold its September meeting on Thursday, September 5th at 7:30 PM at the Celeste Campbell Center, 155 High Street, Eugene. This month's meeting will focus on how to enter a dahlia bloom into a dahlia show. We will discuss how to improve bloom quality on your plants, how to safely transport blooms to the show, and demonstrate how to stage a 1-bloom and 3-bloom entry. We will also have a demonstration on how to float a dahlia bloom and will hear how to gather all of the materials that you will need. We will have the new Show Books to distribute and will give a quick talk on how to read the Show Book and understand it. Limited amounts of foam will be for sale. We also encourage all members to bring some dahlia blooms for our "show-and-tell". The meeting is free and open to the public. Free refreshments and door prizes will be provided. August Meeting



The August meeting of the Lane Country Dahlia Society will be held Thursday, August 1st at 7:30 PM at the Celeste Campbell Center, 155 High Street, Eugene. We are so excited that this month's speaker will be Wayne Lobaugh of Lobaugh's Dahlias in Washington State. Wayne is an expert dahlia grower, exhibitor, and hybridizer. His topic for our meeting will be "Hybridizing Open Centered Dahlias". Wayne has introduced many wonderful open centered dahlias such as RaeAnn's Peach and Apopa Beauty. His talk is sure to be a fascinating look into his methods for creating these wonderful new varieties. We will also have our regular dahlia "show-and-tell" and we encourage members and non-members alike to bring in blooms to share. As always, admission is free and there will be door prizes and refreshments served. We look forward to seeing you there!

July Meeting



The Lane County Dahlia Society will hold its July Meeting Thursday, July 11th at 7:30 PM at the Celeste Campbell Center, 155 High Street, Eugene. This month's program will feature August Jackson from the Mt. Pisgah Arboretum. He will present a vividly illustrated exploration of the diversity of Oregon's 500+ bee species. Getting to know our native bees is the first step in seeing them in our gardens and everywhere we go. You will learn to appreciate the vital role they play in our gardens and our local ecosystems. During the evening, we will have a raffle for three lovely dahlia themed tote bags, created by LCDS member Pat C. We also encourage all members and visitors to bring in dahlia blooms if you have some early performers in your garden. There will be door prizes and refreshments. As always admission is free and all are welcome. We hope to see you there!

June Meeting



The June meeting of the Lane County Dahlia Society will be held Thursday, June 6th, at 7:30 PM at the Celeste Campbell Center, 155 High Street, Eugene. June's meeting will feature a presentation by Larry Smith of the Portland Dahlia Society. Larry is a long time dahlia grower and floral judge. His beautiful dahlia blooms are often found on the head table at shows all over the Pacific Northwest. While Larry grows many dahlia forms, his specialty is growing and staging Mignon Singles. Larry will speak on his techniques and tips for growing award winning dahlias. His great sense of humor and deep dahlia growing knowledge will make for a really fun and educational evening. We will also feature a "last-chance" dahlia tuber sale. Tubers will be sold for just $1 each before the meeting and during intermission. This is a great time to pick up a few tubers to fill in a gap in your garden or to gift to a friend. We will also have door prizes, a raffle for one-of-a-kind dahlia tote bags, and free refreshments. Last Chance Tuber Sale


Saturday, May 18th  will be the last tuber sale of the year held by the Lane County Dahlia Society. The sale will take place from 10 AM until 4 PM and will be located at the Key Bank on River Road. The address is 1980 River Road. Key Bank is located right in front of the Bi-Mart, just south of the Beltline Expressway. Please come early for the best selection. We have 100's of varieties for sale in a wide assortment of forms, sizes and colors. With the sun  out and the outside temperature warming, now is the perfect time to plant! All tubers will be $3.50 each or 5/$15. We hope to see you there!

Tuber Sale !!!



What: A Garden Extravaganza! - A dahlia tuber sale and plant sale held in conjunction with the Willamette District Garden Clubs

When: Saturday, May 11th from 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Where: The Key Bank on River Road, located right in front of Bi-Mart. The address is 1960 River Road.

The Lane County Dahlia Society has recently received a large donation of all new dahlia tubers. We will have 100's of varieties for sale in a great assortment of bloom sizes, colors, and forms. All tubers will sell for just $3.50 each. The Garden Clubs will be selling Perennial Planters and Garden Planters. Just in time for Mothers Day and the perfect time to get those new dahlia tubers in the ground. May Meeting


The Lane County Dahlia Society will hold its May meeting Thursday, May 2nd at 7:30 PM at the Celeste Campbell Center, 155 High Street, Eugene. At this month's meeting, Deb and Lexa will give a new presentation on choosing the right dahlia varieties for your garden. Whether you are looking for the best dahlias to exhibit or the best varieties for cut flowers, we will share lots of ideas, just in time for this month's tuber sales! The meeting will also feature a short talk by Eugene about inspecting your tubers and finding the eyes. There will be door prizes and free refreshments  available.The meetings are free and open to the public. We hope that you will join us!

Lane County Dahlia Society Annual Tuber Auction & Sale

When: Thursday, April 4th, 2019

Where: Celeste Campbell Center, 155 High Street, Eugene

Time: The auction will start at 7:30 PM sharp, to be followed by open sales tables approx. 1 hour later

What: Choice dahlia tubers will be auctioned off and sold to support the activities of the Lane County Dahlia Society. After the auction, there will be tables loaded with different dahlia tubers for sale. There will be free door prizes throughout the evening, as well as free refreshments. March Meeting

The Lane County Dahlia Society will hold its March meeting Thursday, March 7th at 7:30 PM at the Celeste Campbell Center, 155 High Street, Eugene. The March meeting will feature a brand new power-point presentation titled " Dahlia Varieties 101: Choosing the correct dahlias for your Garden". Deb Gilmer and Lexa Cookson will share their current favorite dahlias for exhibiting, to grow for cut flowers, and to plant in a  mixed garden bed. They will also talk about how to choose dahlia varieties to create pleasing bouquets for your home and the latest unique  dahlia varieties available.There will also be door prizes and free refreshments provided. The meeting is free and open to the public. Whether you are a first time visitor or a long-time L.C.D.S. member, we hope that you will join us!

February Meeting


Our February dahlia meeting will be held Thursday, February 7th at 7:30 PM at the Celeste Campbell Center, 155 High Street, Eugene. The topic of this meeting will be new dahlia introductions for 2019. We will show a DVD that presents all of the new dahlias that earned a passing score at the 2018 trial gardens. Also, it is time to renew your membership, if you haven't already done so. It should be a fun winter's night full of lovely dahlia blooms and  help us all plan and dream about our upcoming garden. There will be refreshments and door prizes too.  As always, the meeting is free and open to the public. We hope to see you there!

Welcome to 2019 ! It's time to renew your membership.



January is the time to renew your dahlia society membership and pay yearly dues to help sustain our organization. If you joined the Lane County Dahlia Society after September 1st, 2018, then your dues are good through 2019. We encourage all members to join the American Dahlia Society and the Pacific Northwest Dahlia Conference as well.

Lane County Dahlia Society Dues are $10 per person, $15 each family; Members receive 11 issues of our newsletter The Dahlia Data

American Dahlia Society $24 per person, $27 for a family. Members receive the quarterly ADS Bulletin and the 2010 Classification Guild. The Bulletin contains timely articles pertaining to dahlias, information on new cultivars, and a host of other topics. The Classification book is indispensable as a guide that states which cultivars performed well in your region and lists winning varieties from around the nation. The ADS provides a great service to all dahlia enthusiasts at a bargain price.

Pacific Northwest Dahlia Conference $10 per person or $15 for a family. The PNDS hosts 3 trial gardens: Inland Empire Garden in Spokane, Canby Trial Garden in Canby, Oregon & the Victoria Trial Garden on Canada's Vancouver Island. The PNDS provides training for judges, maintains records for all member societies, and sponsors an annual show. Each member of the PNDS receives 3 newsletters a year, a membership booklet, and an exhibiting number.
