LCDS 53rd Annual Dahlia Show - A Recap
This past weekend, the Lane County Dahlia Society held its 53rd Annual Dahlia Show at the Lane Events Center. Exhibitors came from all over Oregon and Washington to show and judge the very best blooms. Thanks to a wonderful front page article in Friday's Eugene Register Guard, the show experienced large, enthusiastic crowds, eager to learn more about dahlias.
Below is a recap, highlighting the best blooms in the Show. A special "Shout-out" to Portland exhibitor Nathan Payne. Nathan is a Novice, growing and showing dahlias for the first time this season. Nathan had a whopping 7 entries make the Head Table this weekend and one was chosen Best-in-Show. Congratulations Nathan on this amazing achievement!

Admission is Free! Come help the Lane County Dahlia Society celebrate its 53rd Annual Show. There will be hundreds of dahlia varieties on display, exhibited by dozens of growers from all over the Pacific Northwest. There will be an information booth staffed by LCDS members ready to answer all of your questions and free handouts too. Just outside the Wheeler Pavilion is a dahlia garden tended by LCDS members. Bring you camera and your questions and prepare to be amazed at the display. We will see you there!

September Meeting
The September meeting of the Lane County Dahlia Society will be held Thursday, September 1st at 7:30 PM, at the Celeste Campbell Center, in Eugene. Our Program this month will feature a one of a kind presentation by Eleanor Shantz on how to create exhibition quality Dahlia Baskets. Eleanor is know and respected on a National level for her expertise in creating winning dahlia baskets. Please join us and see first hand how she creates her memorable displays and learn from the best! Audience members will have a chance to have their questions answered while viewing Eleanor creating a basket in real-time. There will be door prizes and free refreshments available. We also encourage all members and guests to bring in dahlia blooms for our "show-and-tell". The meeting is free and open to the public. We hope that you will join us!

August Meeting
The Lane County Dahlia Society will hold its August meeting on Thursday, August 4th at 7:30 PM at the Celeste Campbell Center, 155 High Street, Eugene. This month's meeting will focus on how to enter a dahlia bloom into a dahlia show. We will discuss how to improve bloom quality on your plants, how to safely transport blooms to the show, and demonstrate how to stage a 1-bloom and 3-bloom entry. Experts will also be on hand to answer any questions related to entering baskets or arrangements as well. We also encourage all members to bring some dahlia blooms for our "show-and-tell". The meeting is free and open to the public. Free refreshments and door prizes will be provided. We look forward to seeing you there!

June Meeting
The June meeting of the Lane County Dahlia Society will be held Thursday, June 2nd at 7:30 PM at the Celeste Campbell Center. Our presentation this month will be lead by veteran L.C.D.S. grower Brian Fullerton, who will discuss getting water to our dahlia plants as the weather warms up and the dry season begins. Learn about different watering systems as well as theories about how much and when to water. Bring your questions! We will also have a last chance tuber sale. It will start at 7:00 PM and continue on during the refreshment break. All tubers will be just $1. There will be door prizes and free refreshments available. The meeting is free and open to the public. We hope that you will join us!

Tubers For Sale!
Saturday, May 21st, will be the last tuber sale of the year held by the Lane County Dahlia Society. The sale will take place from 10 AM until 4 PM and will be located at the Key Bank on River Road. The address is 1960 River Road. Key Bank is located right in front of the Bi-Mart, just south of the Beltline Expressway. Please come early for the best selection. We have recently received a large donation of all new tubers, so there will be dozens of varieties for sale that we haven't had at any of our previous sales this year. With the sun shinning and the outside temperature warm, now is the time to plant. All tubers will be $3.50 each or 5/$15. We hope to see you there!

May Meeting
The Lane County Dahlia Society will hold its May meeting Thursday, May 5th at 7:30 PM at the Celeste Campbell Center, 155 High Street, Eugene. At this month's meeting a pair of experienced dahlia growers will be on hand to discuss preparation methods for planting a dahlia garden. They will offer advice on when, where, and how to plant your dahlia tubers and will gladly answer any questions. We will also have a HUGE selection of dahlia tubers for sale at the meeting. All tubers will sell for $3.50 each. Tuber sales begin at 7:00 PM. There will be door prizes and free refreshments available.The meetings are free and open to the public. We hope that you will join us!

Time: The auction will start at 7:30 PM sharp, to be followed by open sales tables approx. 1 hour later
What: Choice dahlia tubers will be auctioned off and sold to support the activities of the Lane County Dahlia Society. After the auction, there will be tables loaded with different dahlia tubers for sale. There will be free door prizes throughout the evening, as well as free refreshments. March Meeting

The Lane County Dahlia Society will hold its March meeting Thursday, March 3rd at 7:30 PM at the Celeste Campbell Center, 155 High Street, Eugene. LCDS's own Eugene Kenyon, owner of River's Dahlias, will talk about and demonstrate three methods of propagating dahlias using tubers, seeds, and cuttings. To encourage members to grow seedlings for this summer, he will distribute seed from dahlias that he has crossed and grown. Come and be part of the fun! February Meeting
Our February dahlia meeting will be held Thursday, February 4th at 7:30 PM at the Celeste Campbell Center, 155 High Street, Eugene. The topic of this meeting will be new dahlia introductions for 2016. We will show a DVD that presents all of new dahlias that earned a passing score at the 2015 trial gardens .
