The Lane County Dahlia Society will hold its August meeting Thursday, August 3rd at 7:00 PM at the Celeste Campbell Center, 155 High Street, Eugene. The arrival of August heralds two things; a garden full of gorgeous dahlia blooms and the arrival of dahlia show season. The August program will be presented by LCDS members Eugene, Rosie, and Camille. This dynamic trio will guide us all through the ADS classification book, explain how it pertains to a dahlia show, and then demystify our own Dahlia Show book. If you have ever thought about entering a dahlia show, you won't want to miss this meeting! We will also have our regular feature "What's Happening in the Garden". This month, the segment will include organic fertilizers and pest management. We also encourage all members and guests to bring some blooms to show off and share at the meeting. There will be door prizes and free refreshments. The meeting is free and open to the public! Whether you are a first-time visitor or a long-time L.C.D.S. member, we hope that you will join us!

The Lane County Dahlia Society will hold its August meeting on Thursday, August 2nd. at 7:30 PM at the Celeste Campbell Center, 155 High Street, Eugene. This month's program will feature a discussion on dahlia grooming, and how best to tend to your plants at this time of the year to produce plentiful, big, beautiful blooms. We will also have a demonstration on creating arrangements with dahlias for both the home and for a dahlia show. As we head toward the dahlia show season, show supplies including foam and containers will be available for purchase. And don't forget to bring in those dahlias blooms. We love to have our dahlia "show-and-tell" before the meeting and during the break. As always free door prizes and refreshments will be offered. The meeting is also free and open to the public. The Lane County Dahlia Society will hold its August meeting on Thursday, August 3rd at 7:30 PM at the Celeste Campbell Center, 155 High Street, Eugene. The presentation for this month will be focused on dahlia virus. Linda Taylor, a member of the Portland Dahlia Society and a member of the American Dahlia Society's Dahlia Virus Committee will be our honored guest and speaker. She will help us understand what dahlia virus is, what is currently know about them and what we don't yet know. She will give tips on identifying dahlias with a virus verses plants that might just be suffering from a nutrient deficiency or other factor. Most importantly, she will give tips on preventing the spread of virus and let us know what we can do proactively in our own gardens. We will also have our Dahlia "Show-and-Tell" table set up. Please bring samples of what's blooming in your garden to be enjoyed by the group! We will have door prizes and refreshments. The meeting is free and open to the public. We hope to see you there!

We will discuss how to improve bloom quality on your plants, how to safely transport blooms to the show, and demonstrate how to stage a 1-bloom and 3-bloom entry. Experts will also be on hand to answer any questions related to entering baskets or arrangements as well. We also encourage all members to bring some dahlia blooms for our "show-and-tell". Our program this month will be centered around the topic of how to use dahlias in a floral design. Our presenters, Monica Henry and Sherry Cossey, are both members of the LCDS and the Eugene Garden Club. These talented ladies will show how to create beautiful floral designs using dahlias, other cut flowers, and foliage from the garden. Audience members will be invited to participate. There will be door prizes and free refreshments available. We also encourage all members and guests to bring in dahlia blooms for our "show-and-tell". The meeting is free and open to the public. Our presentation will be all about pest management with Gail Karlson, OSU Master Gardener. Come learn about good bugs and bad bugs and what's eating your dahlias.
